TOMB OF SALIM CHISTI
( Fatehpur Sikri ) Agra
Shaikh Salim Chisti (1418-1572) was one of the famous Sufi saints of the
Chishti Order in India. Salim Chisti was the descendant of the famous
Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti whose tomb is in Ajmer, Rajasthan.
Salim Chisti was greatly revered saint, and the Mughal emperor Akbar
also kept him in high regard. The legend states that Akbar was not
getting any offspring, and he prayed through Salim Chisti. Salim Chisti
blessed Akbar, and three sons were born to him. He named one of them
Salim in the memory of Salim Chisti. Salim succeeded Akbar and ruled in
the name of Jahangir.
Salim Chisti is buried in Fatehpur Sikri, Uttar Pradesh, India.
RED FORT
The Delhi Fort is located in Delhi, India. It is also known as Lal
Qil'ah, or Lal Qila, meaning the Red Fort. The Red Fort was the palace
for Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan's new capital, Shahjahanabad, the seventh
Muslim city in the Delhi site . The fort lies along the Yamuna River,
which fed the moats that surround most of the wall. The Red Fort is one
of the most popular tourist destinations in Delhi, attracting millions
of visitors every year. The fort is also the site from which the Prime
Minister of India addresses the nation on August 15, the day India
achieved independence from the United Kingdom.
