Tomb of “Arba Abour Rahim Khan”

 

This is the Tomb of “Khan – I – Khanan”Arba Abour Rahim Khan , Who was the Son of Bairam Khan . The First Prime Minister or Regent of the First Mughal Emperor Akbar “Khan-I –Khanan”( AD 1556-1627) was Four Years Old at the Time of His Father’s Assasination and Akbar Took him Under his charge . Again close to the area around Nizamuddin is the tomb of Abdur Rahim Khan who was given the title of Khan-i-Khanan and also opposite the Mathura Road.Abdur Rahim Khan, who was said to have died in 1626, was the son of Bairam Khan, Akbar's loyal
protector during his early years and later an influential courtier in the courts of both Akbar and Jehangir. Today Rahim Khan is has been popularised  as a popular Hindi poet but we do not know the truth. The tomb, which is dilapidated nowwas a landmark of architecture during its time. Following the design of Humayun's tomb, it is built of red sandstone and has a marble dome. The marble slabs were removed later and put on the dome of Safdarjang's tomb.

He was also the Tutor of Prince Salim , He won Many Battles & was the Governor of Different Provinces and Served both Akbar & Jehangir .He was a Great Writer in Arabic , Turkish , Persian & Hindi . His Hindi Couplets are known under his familiar Name of Rahim.
This Double Storey Tomb is a Massive Square Edifice rising from a platform faced by Arched Cells , Following the Pattern following the Pattern of Humayun’s Tomb around the Central Double Dome are Chattris at the Corners . The Interior is pleasingly Decorated with incised & painted Plaster Work , its marble & Red Sandstone which faced it were later removed during the premiership of Asifur Daulah to use in Safdurjung Tomb.
